In the autumn-winter period, feet are in closed shoes, most often in warm and thick ones. These shoes are poorly ventilated inside. The sweat produced does not evaporate from the surface of the skin, making the feet wet. Excess moisture can lead to softening of the skin and the corners of the nails growing into the side ridges. Moreover, the humid environment inside shoes promotes the development of pathogens of mycosis (fungus of the skin and nails).

In the autumn-winter period, activity usually decreases. We move less, and because of this, blood circulation in the legs and tissue trophism worsen.

In closed shoes, the toes are usually pressed tightly together. This increases maceration of the skin between the fingers, causing cracks to appear.

Closed shoes put pressure on the skin, causing hyperkeratosis, the formation of calluses and corns.

Another important factor that distinguishes the cold period of the year is heating. In heated rooms the air becomes drier. The evaporation of moisture from the surface of the skin increases. Sweating becomes more intense, making the feet wet, and dry air dries out the epidermis, as moisture quickly evaporates. As a result, the skin becomes drier, more sensitive, and may peel and crack.

So, the main foot problems that arise in the autumn-winter period:

     calluses and corns;
     dryness and flaking of the skin;
     interdigital cracks;
     cracks in the skin of the plantar part of the feet;
     ingrown nails.

Recommendations for foot hygiene in autumn and winter

     First of all, you need to carefully monitor the cleanliness of your feet, shoes and hosiery.

Mandatory steps in hygienic care are cleansing and moisturizing the skin twice a day:

Morning. We recommend rinsing your feet with cool water without detergents, and using AQ Skin cream to moisturize your skin throughout the day. The product does not leave a film on the skin, is instantly absorbed, and also has an antiseptic effect and supports the barrier functions of the skin, which helps prevent mycoses. This is very important when wearing closed shoes.

Evening. The skin of the feet must be cleansed with water using Fluid Active foam. It perfectly removes dirt and dead cells of the epidermis, eliminates unpleasant odor. It also gives a feeling of freshness, which is very pleasant to feel at the end of the day. It’s also good to pamper your feet with a contrast shower and a light brush massage. This improves blood circulation, tones blood vessels that suffer from a sedentary lifestyle during this period and prepares the skin for the application of creams and/or masks. Don't forget to dry your feet thoroughly after showering. Pay special attention to the area between the fingers. After a shower, we recommend applying a cream mousse, for example, Hellsoft. The product prevents hyperkeratosis, deeply moisturizes the skin, and restores the natural regeneration of epidermal cells. As additional care, use the “Helper” mask 1-2 times a week. Apply a thin layer after shower and leave overnight. You can also either use a thicker layer, wrap your feet with film and leave for 20-30 minutes. Then remove the film and rub the remaining mask over your foot. There is no need to wash off the mask.

During this period, you can also use special oils, for example, “Profit”. The product is applied 2-3 times a week to the skin of the foot, plus daily only to the nails and periungual skin. This is a powerful prevention of fungal infection.

     If possible, avoid wearing closed shoes all day. If this cannot be avoided, follow these simple rules:

Hosiery should be made of hygroscopic material: cotton, bamboo, sports fabrics. Capron is excluded.

After hygiene procedures in the morning, to further normalize the functioning of the sebaceous and sweat glands, it is recommended to use Solos zinc cream. Additionally, to prevent excessive sweating, you can treat your feet with “Terra” or “Comfort” body powder. Powders have the form of a fine powder that effectively absorbs excess moisture, and a special composition ensures the prevention of fungal infections.

At the end of a day spent in closed shoes, the following hygiene procedures are required:

     Wash your feet using the “Fluid Active” cleansing foam with silver ions.
     Apply Solos cream to dry feet, which will moisturize the skin of the feet, restore the natural immunity of the skin and eliminate irritation caused by the warm and poorly ventilated environment in closed shoes.

Basic moments:

     Give preference to hygroscopic and breathable fabrics: cotton, bamboo, special sports products. Nylon does not absorb sweat, which is released abundantly in warm closed shoes. If you want to wear beautiful nylon tights, it is recommended to wear thin cotton socks under them or on top.
     Socks and tights must be changed to clean ones daily.
     Be sure to dry your shoes well. To do this, it is placed in a well-ventilated place. In this case, the tops of the boots must be opened. If possible, use special shoe dryers.
     Wear shoes that suit the season. Wearing shoes that are too warm can cause hyperhidrosis. If you use shoes that are too cold, your feet will freeze. This causes the blood vessels to narrow in order to transfer less heat to the surface of the skin. As a result, blood circulation in the feet slows down with negative consequences on the quality of the skin of the legs.
     Choose shoes that suit the size and shape of your feet, with low and stable heels. This will prevent the formation of calluses and corns.

These were the basic rules of foot hygiene during the cold season. In the following articles, we will consider recommendations for foot care in the summer, depending on age, diseases, and field of activity.
